On Sunday when I was working, I decided to get a bunch of stuff for the week so that I wouldn't end up eating junk food or my crappy cooking for lunch. Of course, I got some of my favorite tortilla chips and the best salsa in the world (made in the Berry Farm's own kitchen). I also decided to be adventurous and I got this muesli (no idea how to pronounce or spell) with bananas and oranges and this dairy-free "macaroni and chreese" (sounds like "trees" when you say it). I tried it once before and it was kind of weird but not bad, so I figured I'd try it again. I seem to be the only one buying it. I'll have it for lunch tomorrow. As for the muesli, I had it for breakfast this morning. Bland. But I felt so healthy and chic. Now I know what it feels like to be a citiot eating out stuff. I also felt kind of guilty about having dairy because it makes me break out. But I got some vanilla soy milk and maybe that'll help.
Speaking of buying soymilk today, I went to Hannaford (the big local grocery store) today for the first time in a long time on the way back from visiting Union College. I decided to wander around the organic foods section for a while, which was pretty cool. We carry a lot of the same stuff, but the section is about the size of our whole store. I got some reallllly good organic sour lollipops, though. Becca was so grossed out that I drank soymilk. Of course, I also ate lunch with her and Charlotte, two of the pickiest eaters in the world, who had to analyze everything they ate to death before they put it in their mouth. Babies. They call me a goat because I'll eat anything. Especially after starting work at the Berry Farm. I've eaten things that you don't even wanna know.
I'm not working at the BF again until Thursday, but I've got economics class in the mornings all this week. Tomorrow after economics I'm excited about baking some of those Tollhouse cookies-in-a-tube and trying my mac-n-chreese again. Mom is also putting me to work making brownies for dessert to bring to Joe (my boss') house. It promises to be a sufficiently awkward evening, but maybe I'll get to see his daughter's 2 baby ducks. Cute!!!!!

It was extra busy today at the Berry Farm getting ready for July 4th. Here are some good and bad things about today.
Good: I was working with Lucie today, who is so nice. Come to find out today that she is, as she says, "feminist whoa." Ironically, she was working alongside the girl who dreams of marrying a rich, abusive man for whom she can bake cookies all day long. And even though we were completely different, we still got along fine - now why can't politics be more like that? She thought it was hilarious that I wanted to be a 1950's housewife.
Bad: My boss was very stressed and grumpy. His speech was mostly a string of the word "friggin" and whatever plant or food he was in a tiff over at the moment.
Good: Today, a man came in and asked if Lucie or I did any of the baking (we have the most fabulous baked goods at the BF). And he said that if he did, we wouldn't be single long. This gave me a brilliant idea as to how to pursue my dreams (see first paragraphs). I'll have to get those recipes from Mary and Cathy. Lucie suggested a Berry Far cookie night.
Bad: I had to sort through a bag of rotten basil. There is nothing more unpleasant than getting a handful of black basil mush. Except maybe having it under your nails days later.
Good: Apparently, I met a celebrity today. When she left, Lucie grabbed my arm and asked me if I knew who that was. I didn't. It was Mary Stuart Masterson, who must be one of Lucie's favorite actresses. I always wondered why I never met any famous people when I was working. I always thought that it was because I was always in the prep room cutting up broccoli or going through an endless box of beans. But it's just that I don't recognize any of them. Though this one time, I thought I saw Johnny Depp, but it just ended up being some guy that really looked like him.
Bad: Some guy left his wallet. We went through it and tried to find a phone number, but were able to find just about everything but. It was a very eclectic wallet if I may say so. He had both Canadian and American money and even though his driver's license said that he was from Chatham, he had a Metro Card. Then I went home and tried to look up his number on the internet, feeling like some sort of stalker. He was pretty cute, but he has a wife and an adorable little adopted African baby. Drat. Anyway, if Aaron O. Lieberman is reading this, you left your wallet at the Berry Farm in Chatham.
Good: I saved the carrot salad from disaster by asking Mary what was in it. She then realized that she had forgotten to add the nuts. It may not be a super hero sized save-the-day thing, but it's good enough for me.
Bad: Allie told me today that all money has itty-bitty little traces of cocaine on it, especially bigger bills. I didn't really think about it until a guy paid with a $100 bill. Then I was kind of paranoid. I would have used the hand sanitizer, but she freaked me out telling me that it would make bacteria immune and create a monstrous supervirus. On an almost unrelated matter, Lucie and I came up with an ingenious plan to sell spilled parmesan cheese in little baggies as drugs.
I'm not set to work tomorrow, but I might drop in and do some strawberry you-pick and bring them to Charlotte's mom as a thank-you for bringing me to a play tomorrow. I've never actually picked strawberries, so it should be fun. ;D
